Brenard Howard
Howard was the head boys basketball coach at Anniston for 11 seasons from 1986-87 through 1996-97. The Bulldogs won five Calhoun County basketball tournament championships under his leadership. His teams were regular-season area champions five times and area tournament champions five times.
Howard's Anniston teams were regular-season area champions five times and area tournament champions five times as well. He was named Calhoun County's Class 4A-6A coach of the year twice. Howard was an assistant football coach at Anniston from 1981 through 1998.
Howard returned to Alexandria, his high school alma mater, in the fall of 1999. From then until he retired in 2013, Howard coached junior high boys basketball, varsity football, and boys and girls golf for the Valley Cubs. His girls teams won the AHSAA state 1A-5A tournament in 2008 and finished second in 2011 and again in 2012. Since retiring, Howard has continued to coach golf for the Valley Cubs as a volunteer.
While in high school at Alexandria, Howard played football and basketball. He earned a basketball scholarship to Gadsden State. After completing junior college, Howard entered the United States Army and served for more than three years. He completed his education at Jacksonville State University. Howard's entire career as an educator was spent at Anniston and Alexandria.
