Lou Scales
O’Brien was an exceptional player in football, basketball, and baseball at Anniston High School. While at Anniston, O’Brien was first team all-state as a halfback in his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. Less than six feet tall, he was named first team all-tournament as a center at the 1939 AHSAA state basketball tournament. Professionally, baseball was O’Brien’s sport. He played parts of five seasons in the major leagues, hitting a career best .333 in 58 games for Pittsburgh in 1945. O’Brien served as an official for many years. He died November 5, 1978.
