Randy Law
Law completed his undergraduate degree at Jacksonville State University in April 1979. He started his teaching and coaching career that fall at Trinity Christian in Oxford, coaching boys varsity basketball. The Tigers were 21-5 for Law in his first season and went 20-8 the following year. He then gave up coaching for five years.
Law became varsity volleyball coach at Saks High School in the fall of 1986 and patiently built successful teams in both softball and volleyball. By 1995, Saks was 48-10 and finished as AHSAA Class 5A state volleyball champions. Law was named county coach of the year. Saks was third in the state volleyball tournament in 1997, going 45-11, but Law stepped aside to spend more time with his family.
In 2002, he returned as volleyball coach for one more season. Law's Wildcats were 55-7 and claimed both the Calhoun County tournament championship and the Class 4A state volleyball title. Again, Law was Calhoun County's big school's coach of the year. He did not coach volleyball again until 2012 when he returned to guide the Wildcats for six more seasons. In 19 years as head volleyball coach at Saks, Law's teams were 576-204.
Law also coached softball at Saks. His teams won Calhoun County tournament championships in 1988 and 1992. He was named Calhoun County softball coach of the year in 1988, 1992, 1995, and 1998. In 1995, Saks finished 59-14 and second in the 5A state tournament. Saks was 60-28 in 1998, second in the county tournament and fourth in the 5A state tournament. He elected to give up his position as softball coach after the 1998 season but returned for six seasons from 2006 through 2011 and for one final season in 2018. His career record in 18 softball seasons, all at Saks, was 555-287. In 2008, the Saks softball field was named in Law's honor.
